February and the snow is hard and squeaks when crunched. It’s worse than nails on a chalkboard and it pierces my ears with every step. As it always does, Winter has long overstayed its welcome and now I’ll have to wait until the ground thaws to bury the body. It’s either that or…

Googling adventure will not help you find any...
[This truck is near the LA River but not in it. As you can clearly see. What are you some sort of doofus? But obviously this truck is cool.]
So. There is a river in LA. Did you know?
Ok, so you knew, but did you know that it’s actually not that gross? In fact, it’s pretty spectacular. You could go check out the river up by Griffith Park, but it wouldn’t be much of an...

Nursing Home –Day
The apartment is badly disguised as a home. Pieces of hospital are poking through in the pink and beige plastic implements and institutional furniture. BEA, a smiling, white- haired old lady with stains on her pink…

Googling "adventure" will not help you find any...
[These stairs will not be on the agenda so don’t get all excited about working your glutes or whatever]
It’s true. Google is not great at providing that thrill that only something that is unknown and maybe a little bit dangerous puts in the pit of your stomach. Google is better at known, safe and sanitary.
Boring!
Here’s a thriller: Wear grippy shoes and start like...

Climbing With Chainsaws
This morning, as I was lying in my bed resisting the hour of waking up, I heard a small gas powered device roar to life just outside my window. I was annoyed by the sound at first, until I rolled over and looked out the window to see a man scaling the palm tree with a chainsaw (on and running) hanging from his belt, or harness or whatever.
Let me reiterate. While I was lying in bed hitting the...

Searching for Apartments in L.A.
It’s that time ladies and gentlemen. Time to look for a new place to live and I am, as always, both excited and stressed about it.
Apartment hunting in this town seemed mind-bottlingly impossible when I first got here. How to pick which amazing area to live in? How to find available apartments when I do figure it out? Do I really have to pay sixty bucks for westside rentals?
Well, I...

An Open Letter to the Black Widow Spider Living...
Dear Black Widow Spider Living Under the Table by the Door,
We’ve been living together for a couple weeks now and, in general, I thought you were an okay roommate. You keep to yourself and clean up certain parts of the house that you use. That’s why I feel a little bad when I tell you that, when I get home from work today, you had better either be gone or ready to die.
I know that...

Skylight Books
A good bookstore is like a desert tray of other people’s thoughts and ideas. They look so scrumptious you want to bite into every single one. A history of the color turquoise? Yes please! A book with a blank cover, no author, and no title that just launches into Salingeresque prose on the flap? I’ll take it! A Flaubert/Cather compilation series on sale for $3.99? How could I not?! The...

Just saw that Zach Galifianakis will be hosting SNL this weekend.
I don’t think I’ve ever been excited about an SNL host before. Literally. Never.
(I only use the internet to procrastinate. And occasionally to win arguments, but that’s pretty much it)

Between the ocean and the deep blue jeans
I stopped off at Lucky Brand Jeans on my way home from work this afternoon. My previous pair of luckies finally wore out and started ripping in inconvenient places. I was making do with a pair from the Gap that are always too big ten minutes into my day. I’m happy to report I’m finally coming around to this whole skinny jean fad that the whippersnappers started, now that I’ve...
